Distance Learning
Our company has been involved since 1993 in the field of management of knowledge and distance learning networks and it has to show the software product called MIT-COM, which was developed in the context of the European initiative HORIZON, which regarded Distance learning for People with Special Needs (Telegreat programme).
This software was developed in cooperation with the Rehabilitation and Post-Therapeutic Centre of South-Eastern Attica (Athens).
The Mit-COM implements the concept of the electronic classroom where:
Every student is member of a team/group
For every lesson there is a responsible teacher
The conversation between the students and the exchange of messages is done always in the context of the classroom
Individual communication between teacher and student is achieved
Individual communication of the teacher with the entire classroom is achieved
There can be on-line conversation between the students of a classroom (communication of many with many)
There can be routing of the lesson material and monitoring and grading of the progress of the students, through a questionnaire that the teacher may formulate
With the help of the Mit-COM, a telematic network of National (Greek) range was established with the Server located at the Post-Therapeutic Centre (Athens) and Gateway (second Server) at Salonica and 50 Multimedia work stations which were installed at agencies and homes of People with Special Needs in the areas of Athens, Argosaronicos islands, Patras, Thessaloniki and Xanthe. Through this network it was possible to train 175 individuals.
Today, all the experience from that project, has permeated in the Vocational Training Center KEK-MIT, where scenarios of distance training and support (via Internet) are designed and implemented for the minority groups of the population (Repatriating people, People with special needs) as well as for the ongoing support and training of people who are staffing the information and support centers all over Greece.
